Dr. Anupam Agarwal

Introduction : Anupam Agarwal, MD, FASN is currently Executive Vice Dean, Heersink School of Medicine and Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He served as Division director for UAB Nephrology from 2008-2021 and ASN President in 2020. He also serves as the Program Director of the NIDDK funded O'Brien Center for Acute Kidney Injury Research. Dr. Agarwal has an active role in clinical medicine, teaching, research and administration. Dr. Agarwal's research program, funded by the NIH and Department of Veterans Affairs, has provided critical insights regarding the protective nature and significance of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in vascular and renal inflammation, and the molecular regulation of the human HO-1 gene..
